Buying considerations
· What do you know about dalmatians?
· Why do you want to own a dalmatian?
· Do you have the time?
-walking
-puppy preschool
-obedience training
· Is your garden safe and secure enough to raise a puppy?
-fences over 1800mm and “dig proof”
-swimming pool
-self closing / secure gates
-do you have a shady cool place to leave your puppy
check for dangerous items eg. garden tools / pesticides
· Is your house/garden puppy proof eg, household chemicals/ swinging doors
· Do you work all day-how will you manage the puppy?
· Have you educated your children about how to handle/play with a puppy?
· Do you have another dog/pets in the household?
-treat all other animals and bedding in the household for worms and fleas 2 weeks before taking your puppy home.
- ensure that all other animals are up to date with their vaccinations
Shopping list :
· Bed– hygienic, easy to clean– not cane or a bean bag
· Bedding – clean bedding easy to wash. Remember puppies will chew anything. Old clean manchester will do fine, save buying expensive bedding for later
· A hot water bottle. A good way to settle your puppy initially is to 1/2 fill a hot water bottle with hot (not boiling) water and wrap securely in old towels and bedding.
· A puppy collar and lead
· A crate / car harness / cargo barrier for the car.
· 2 strong non chewable /non breakable water bowls
· Feeding bowl-non chewable / non breakable
· Sun block-baby or puppy for little noses
· Food as advised
